Detailed Information

Early socialization is very important not only for future socialization skills, but for an easy transition into their new home. Puppies are raised in an environment much like your home. There is always plenty of attention, including playtime and grooming. Puppies are familiar with noises such as vacuum cleaners, music and children. They also have quite or alone time which accustoms them to short periods of being left alone.

All puppies are sold on a written contract. All puppies come with a guarantee against congenital defects until the age of one year. Also stated in the contract are the particulars of the puppy; date of birth, parents names and AKC numbers, kennel club the puppy will be registered with, purchase price and buyers and breeders complete information.

Puppies will have a minimum of 2 vaccines and have been wormed every 2-3 weeks until they leave to their new home. Puppies also have preliminary blood work done to screen for possible future health issues. It is important for the health of your puppy to finish their vaccinations if applicable at the advice of your Veterinarian. I do not give bordetella or commonly known as the kennel cough vaccine. This has been known to give a puppy kennel cough. I only feel a puppy may need this vaccine if they were going into daycare or needed to be put into a boarding facility. Another vaccine I do not give is Lepto. Lepto is hidden in many 6 or 7 way vaccines. Many puppies and grown adult toy breed dogs are having allergic reactions to this vaccine and in some cases have caused death. Some Vets still giving the vaccine suggest giving benadryl to help relieve any possible side effects but seems to have little or no affect in preventing a reaction. Please question your Veterinarian thoroughly before allowing them to give this vaccine. I highly suggest NOT giving it to your puppy. Please also remember that a puppy’s immune system is not mature until the age of 9-12 months. When taking your puppy into your Veterinarians office please do not allow the puppy on the floor or furniture. Please remember this is also where people bring their sick animals. Puppies like to lick fingers and strangers like to touch puppies…especially cute puppies! Please do not allow people to put their fingers in your puppy’s mouth. Caution should also be taken in parks and pet supply stores such as Petsmart. Adult dogs can shed a viruses or parasites and seem completely healthy. It is always best to keep your puppy in your arms or a crate if possible.

Puppies sold to pet homes are placed on AKC limited registration and must be spayed or neutered if not spayed or neutered before leaving. Full registration may be available on some puppies to an approved home.  Approved homes are those that are active in conformation dog shows or select beginners that have studied the breed, are seriously  interested in showing and have a complete understanding of responsible breeding and the risks and cost involved with breeding. Show contracts are required.

Puppies are started on paper training. They learn the difference between ‘clean’ areas and ‘dirty’ areas which is their potty place. They will need reinforcement in their new home.  Puppies are NEVER kept on wire. Besides being a completely unnatural surface for a puppy, it teaches them to just stop and ‘go’ anywhere, including your carpet. I suggest when bring a new puppy into your home,  section off a small area such as the kitchen or any area which has an easy to clean surface in case of an accident. This can be done with baby gates or an exercise pen might work better for you depending on your situation. Food, water, a bed or crate with the door off, toys and newspaper/ puppy pads can be kept in this area. Opening a whole house up to a puppy at first will be overwhelming and confusing. Puppies can be trained to use both the newspaper/puppy pads and use the outdoors. I like to train dogs to do both. If the weather is bad or if you need to leave a dog alone for an extended period of time they will have an approved place to relieve themselves. Maltese are smart and eager to please dogs. Housebreaking is generally easier then most breeds, but the key to housebreaking is consistency.

All puppies are micro chipped which helps in recovering a lost pet. Your chances of finding your pet if lost are much greater if a chip is implanted. This also proves ownership if the dog is ever stolen. The chip can be transferred into your name or if your pet is found I will be contacted and in turn contact you if you have not transferred the chip.

Shipping is available within the lower 48 states. I ship out of Dallas/Ft Worth International preferably using American Airlines priority non-stop flights.  Puppies will be shipped when I feel they are both physically and mentally ready, generally about 12 weeks of age. Some tinies will not be ready to ship until 16 weeks of age or older. Puppies are accustomed to a crate here. They sleep and play in a crate with the door off. This helps ease tension and the puppy as some familiarity with a crate before shipping. You may also fly into Dallas to pick up your puppy. I will be happy to meet you at the airport if this would be more convenient for you. The puppy can ride in the cabin  with you for the trip home or you may pick up the puppy in person. Please take into consideration that a short plane ride is sometimes less stressful then a long car ride home. Shipping is 295.00 with American airlines priority flights. Continental Airlines, 245.00. Not all puppies will be shipped using Continental due to long layovers and I will not have a puppy sitting in a crate for hours waiting for a connecting flight.
